What it means to be "literate" in the 21st Century Universities?

Improvement and support is needed in the 21st first century. Writing and reading is part of literacy, it has a lot with thinking and going deep into your topic in what I have discovered. Further due Writing has to be one of our important skills that we have to face everyday in our lives with work, speeches’, letters, school and etc. Good writing requires a lot of practice; there are forms and steps that are applied for the numerous types of writing in today’s time. It’s like learning how to do a problem with memorizing the rules and steps and getting comfortable with the concept. However, with writing you can use your creativity and knowledge to make it your piece or message that would like to be shown. According to ”The Banking Concept of Education” teachers need a better relationship with students to catch their attention so that they’ll learn and actually pay attention. This is going to be beneficial for students and most importantly the teacher so the students can progress and the teacher continues with her topics instead of half the classroom struggling. Finding a better way to educate students is always a good idea, “Inventing the University” Bartholom talked about the basics of writing and students how must use it .He announced two writing skills “base prose” and “readers based prose”. Reader based prose is a kind of public writing and based prose is a kind of private or personal writing composed for oneself. He knows how a student would like to learn and why some aren’t progressing today. Bartholoma tips and ideas catches my eye because me as a student when I walk into a class with a teacher who has no energy or a creative class work that brings us together makes me not want to listen or care. But, with an interesting teacher who loves learning and engaging makes me focus on her/she. The students education can improve too if their parents get involved. Encouraging their children to do better can even help the teachers out.Supporting literacy development is encouraging the students to read and view different texts. Discussing how the texts look different than the other and the different authors, illustration and view what’s amusing about reading and writing. Writing will help boost a student comprehension skill, writing and communication. It’s all about how the child is learning and if she/he is awake, as students we need to train our thinking and get better according to “Everything is a text’. Dan Melzer mentioned we use writing to figure out how things and be aware of our acts of thinking. I agree, continuing writing helps you realize what kind of writer you’ll be and how would you use it in the future. It would be beneficial for the future because writing can fall on to any career we get into and the more comfortable we are with literacy the better we are in reading and writing and the better. With every type of literacy not everyone is an expert on but if we follow the rules, criteria, and get creative with your brain you’ll start somewhere.

Super English                                                                                            BHSVA

Molly Wizenberg blog post spoke to me in how writing can really inspire you in so many ways. She had just decided to quit a Ph.D. program in cultural anthropology. Molly didn’t know what to do with her self. The only thing she knew was that, whatever she did, it had to involve food and writing. This is similar to me too, my future career would be a pediatrician but I’m also so into writing and art that I also don’t really know what to do with myself. Finding what you want to do in the future is so complicated because you can be good at so many things but you still wouldn’t know to decide on the future. Its better off in experiencing everything at fist than deciding in the end, but at the same time writing has to do with many subjects as well so if I am going to have a high career either way I am going to be affiliated with writing and reading. Writing is so important now, if you cant read or write than your not literate in the 21st century. Another blog post that really caught my eye is Amanda and Merill that talked about a food company called FOOD52 in their blog post they have features of their chiefs, bakers, pastry and posts that are informative and an excellent course. This is why literacy is important because literacy has to so with different forms of writing even recipes that is shown today. But in todays time literacy has to do with books letters and speeches and etc.

This is founded by Molly Wizenberg. Molly lived in Seattle, but grew up in Oklahoma City.  She had also lived in the Bay Area and briefly in Paris, France. Molly is into peanut butter, scrambled eggs, seven-minute eggs, meatballs, meat that falls off the bone, cabbage, pancakes and basically anything that has chocolate in it…LOL. Molly started Orangette in July of 2004. She had just decided to quit a Ph.D. program in cultural anthropology, and she didn’t know what to do with myself. The only thing She knew was that, whatever she did, it had to involve food and writing. Molly thought it might be kind of great to write for a food magazine someday, but she had no idea how. This blog is very inspiring to me because Mollt did not know how to start her business and blog but she eventually learn how to do it on her and become very successful in it.
